The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is accepting grant applications from Native American tribes, Alaska Native villages, regional and village corporations, and non-profit organizations that serve primarily Native Hawaiians, to support museum activities. These activities will enhance learning in families and communities, sustain cultural heritage,
build 21st-century skills, or encourage civic engagement.

Synopsis: NEH and NSF have joined forces on Documenting Endangered Languages (DEL), a new, multi-year effort to preserve records of key languages before they become extinct.

NEH has launched a new digital humanities initiative aimed at supporting projects that utilize or study the impact of digital technology. NEH will make special digital humanities awards through its challenge grants program.  Guidelines are posted on the Web at .  These awards are designed to strengthen technological infrastructure, thereby enhancing an applicant institution's ability to make use of new technologies in research, education, preservation, and public programming in the humanities.  Funds may be used to purchase equipment and software, renovate computing centers devoted to the humanities, and purchase databases. Through endowments, funds can support maintenance and upgrades of equipment, software, and data; licensing fees, salaries of technical staff, faculty and staff training in uses of digital technology, and other ongoing expenses associated with uses of digital technology in the humanities.

Synopsis: National Leadership Grants enable libraries and museums to help people gain the knowledge that enhances their engagement in community, work, family, and society. Projects should enable libraries and museums to address current problems in creative ways, develop and test innovative solutions, and expand the boundaries within which cultural heritage institutions operate. Synopsis: NEH invites proposals for the planning or initial stages of digital initiatives in all areas of the humanities. Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants may involve: * research that brings new digital approaches to the study of the humanities or that examines the implications of the use of emerging technologies for humanities scholarship; * new digital modes of publication facilitating the dissemination of humanities scholarship in advanced academic as well as informal or formal educational settings at all academic levels; * exploration of digital methods or approaches to preserve, archive, and make accessible traditional (i.e., analogue) and"new media" resources in the humanities; * planning new digital tools for preserving, analyzing, and making accessible humanities data; and * programs addressing the innovative use of emerging digital technologies in formal and informal educational settings, including public forums such as museums, libraries, historic sites, and broadcast media. Digital Humanities Start-Up Grants should result in plans, prototypes, or proofs of concept for long-term digital humanities projects prior to implementation.
