The Youth Track is open to Native students who will be at least 18 years old by August 1, 2005, and are enrolled and in good standing at an accredited high school, college or university for the 2005-2006 school year. During the past year, 182 collaborations representing over 2,000 organizations and agencies applied for the Kellogg entrepreneurship grant opportunity. Clearly, many rural areas see entrepreneurship development as an important tool in their economic development portfolio. In response to this outpouring of interest, the four Regional Rural Development Centers are working in concert with funders and others to learn more about what is working in relation to entrepreneurship in rural America and what possibilities exist if we could do more to support entrepreneurship. We ask you to join us in a listening session on what is working well and what needs to happen to make it work even better. Please join us on Tuesday, July 12 to share ideas and opportunities related to rural entrepreneurship in Indian County at United Tribes Technical College.

(AIHEC Support Available)The Fifteenth Annual Salish Kootenai Tribal College workshop will be held July 24-27th, 2005 in Pablo, Montana. This workshop is for Tribal College Registrars, Institutional Researchers, Business and Financial Aid Officers to network with other Tribal College staff, learn about developments in higher education a chance to gain additional professional development and training.A special session will be held for Registrars and Institutional Researchers. During the session, AIHEC will provide additional training on the American Indian Measures for Success (AIMS) Key Indicator Survey for AIMS-participating institutions. AIMS-institutions will also receive their Annual Factbooks. Additional training on the Integrated Post-secondary Data System (IPEDs) will be provided at the end of the week on July 28-29th. AIHEC is pleased to announce that it will provide a travel stipend of $1500 per TCU for Registrars and Institutional Researchers to attend. This training is designed for the novice grant writer. It will cover the basics of grant writing including: a glossary of terms, effective terminology, outlining a proposal, developing a historical background and needs statement. It will also cover writing a plan of operation and measurable objectives. Participants will become familiar with grant publications and resources. Hands-on exercises will facilitate participants understanding.

The Society of American Indian Government Employees (SAIGE) is proud to sponsor its 2nd annual national training conference. One of the goals of the Society is to encourage Native American youth to realize their potential providing leadership in their community and schools, to continue their education in order to gain college degrees in the multitude of public service professions, and ultimately, to seek a career in the government sector.
The Youth Track is open to Native students who will be at least 18 years old by August 1, 2005, and are enrolled and in good standing at an accredited high school, college or university for the 2005-2006 school year. Students must be interested in gaining a professional degree and in the possibility of pursing a career with the federal government.
