The conference will continue in its endeavours over recent years to develop an interdisciplinary agenda for the humanities.

The conference will address a range of critically important themes relating to education today. Main speakers will include some of the worlds leading thinkers and in the field of education, as well as numerous paper, colloquium and workshop presentations by researchers and teachers. This is a conference for any person with an interest in, and concern for, education at any of its levels and in any of its forms, from early childhood, to schools, to higher education and lifelong learning - and in any of its sites, from home to school to university to workplace.

Presenters may choose to submit written papers for publication before or after the conference in the fully refereed International Journal of Learning. If you are unable to attend the conference in person, virtual registrations are also available which allow you to submit a paper for refereeing and possible publication in the journal, as well as access to the electronic version of the conference proceedings. The theme of the conference is Fostering Indigenous Entrepreneurship. Presentations include information regarding financing of Indigenous Entrepreneurship, marketing indigenous products, services, and technologies, indigenous gaming industry, media, entertainment, fashion & design, challenges & opportunities facing indigenous sustainable entrepreneurship, and the role of regional, federal and multilateral agencies and NGOs in promoting indigenous entrepreneurship.

The Annual Institute provides college, university and tribal education professionals with opportunities for professional empowerment, networking and personal and spiritual renewal. In an atmosphere of collaboration, friendship, and fun, participants are involved in small, hands-on training sessions in skills areas vital to Native student success.   Training topics have included leadership development, academic and financial aid advisement, alcohol abuse prevention and intervention, program planning and evaluation, fundraising, and cultivating foundation and corporate relations.

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) is sponsoring a Seminar on Using the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) Database for Research and Policy Discussion. 

The main NAEP database contains nationally representative achievement scores on 4th, 8th, and 12th graders from public and non-public schools in a variety of academic subjects. The database also contains background information on the students who were assessed and their learning environment.

Reading and Writing Fundamentals: Learn about new programs, current research-based practices and procedures.  All aspects of Reading First will be taught. Earn graduate credits.

Learn about Morningside’s generative model of teaching and learning to fluency. Well-known experts in learning and motivation provide guest lectures and demonstrations. Morningside’s model is research- based.

Participants will have the opportunity to observe the application of these principles and practice these teaching technologies during a daily two-hour internship in Morningside’s summer school for children. A team of highly skilled faculty will be available for coaching to firm up your teaching skills.

This two-day workshop will provide critical training on the AIMS Key Indicator System for 2006. During the past year, 182 collaborations representing over 2,000 organizations and agencies applied for the Kellogg entrepreneurship grant opportunity. This training is designed for the novice grant writer. It will cover the basics of grant writing including: a glossary of terms, effective terminology, outlining a proposal, developing a historical background and needs statement.  “Walking in Two Worlds” is two days of direct access to Native American leaders, Council of 100 Gathering, new business development, networking, as well as participation in the AIPA annual meeting.  The keynote speaker is Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell. The workshops and presentations will cover five areas: professional development, traditional and Native issues, student services/scholarship undergraduate/ high school, and graduate student presentations.

A quick, concise survey of advanced issues in Federal Indian Law. Topics include: Cultural Resources, Environmental Law, Modern Indian Policy, Self-Determination, and Economic Development. 

AIHEC is working with NativeView to cosponsor and support the upcoming NativeView capacity building forum for TCUs, The theme for the Forum is "Natural Resource Issues in Indian Country." NWIC will host a service learning conference focusing on tribal colleges and institutions that serve indigenous populations. The conference will include place-based experiences to educate participants about the surrounding Native communities. Community elders, educators, cultural specialists will lead these experiences. In addition, the Summit on Indigenous Service Learning will offer workshops on the pairing of service learning and Indigenous communities. The gathering will feature a cultural sharing night where conference participants are encouraged to bring stories, songs, teachings, or presentations from their home community.

This conference will provide an opportunity for tribal environmental professionals to learn from and network with peers in other tribes about shared scientific issues and concerns.

Description:  This conference is designed to provide tribal officials and Indian law practitioners with a basic understanding of federal laws governing agency practices and procedures, and to generate an in-depth discussion of the impact of this field of law on tribal rights and authorities. In particular, the conference will examine the various laws that require federal agencies to consult with Indian tribes and their effects; determinations of tribal jurisdiction made by federal authorities; and strategies and techniques for influencing federal agency decision making.  

This conference will focus on issues critical to the American Indian Studies. Topics include technology and sovereignty; AIS curriculum development; strategies to strengthen AIS programs/departments; tribal colleges/university partnerships; and university and tribal nation’s partnerships.

The purpose of this conference is to discuss collaborative linkages with higher education institutions from Canada, the United States and Mexico. The conference is organized by the Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration and co-convened by many organizations including: American Council on Education, American Association of Community Colleges just to name a few.
